20 Things Horror Movies NEED To Stop Doing
4. AI Slop
One of the big hot-button topics in the entertainment industry right now is AI, particularly the use of generative AI which can create assets that build off the work of other creators without their express permission.
This is obviously extremely problematic, yet in 2025 we've already seen gen AI begin to creep into horror movies, with the recent Justin Long-starring Coyotes using blatant gen AI to poorly render its digital coyotes.
It's easy to see why gen AI is appealing to low-budget filmmakers without the money for VFX artists, but when the unregulated building blocks of the technology are effectively theft, it becomes tougher to support.
While only a few recent horror films have featured brazen use of gen AI, expect to see it far more prominently in 2026 movies and beyond, at which point it'll fall to audiences to vote with their wallets and boycott movies filled with obvious, soulless AI slop.
