16. "Right Now, I Have A Lovely Man From The Treasury Here..."

Casino Royale Daniel Craig
MGM/Columbia Pictures

Returning from GoldenEye (1995) [in which he also had a cameo] to direct his second Bond film and introduce his second James Bond, director Martin Campbell portrays a petrol tanker driver whose neck is broken by terrorist bomber, Carlos (Claudio Santamaria) at Miami International Airport.

Virgin entrepreneur, Sir Richard Branson is also seen very briefly being frisked by airport security, whilst Gunther von Hagens makes a vocal appearance alongside his trademark hat at a Body Worlds Exhibit also set in Miami, Florida.

Producer, Michael G. Wilson cameos as a Montenegrin police chief with supposed links to Le Chiffre who is set up by René Mathis to get him out of the way. Wilson also consulted on playing Texas Hold 'Em poker throughout the film.

Whilst it seems that he later returns as the Treasury agent in M’s office who waits whilst she calls Bond in Venice, this was actually the film’s director of photography and Martin Campbell’s frequent collaborator, Phil Méheux.

Lastly, one of the tennis players who admires Double-0 Seven as she passes him in Nassau is a Brazilian model, Alessandra Ambrosio.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
