Charles Dance is now rightly recognised as one of the great British actors of our time, having appeared in such diverse productions as Alien³ (1992), And Then There Were None (2015), and Game of Thrones (2011-2019).

However, one of his earliest film roles was as Emile Leopold Locque’s (Michael Gothard’s) lieutenant, Claus in For Your Eyes Only.

He can easily be missed in the film and appears mainly in the scenes set in Cortina d’Ampezzo before he is shot with a spear gun by Columbo's men on a Corfu beach following Locque's murder of the Countess Lisl von Schlaf (Cassandra Harris).

Nevertheless, this was not Dance’s only brush with Double-0 Seven; he declined the opportunity to actually portray James Bond, but later played the fictional British agent’s creator, Ian Fleming in Goldeneye: The Secret Life of Ian Fleming (1989) for Anglia Television.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
