20 Things You Didn't Know About Batman Returns
9. The Final Shot Cost $250,000
Given how much was chopped and changed throughout the filming process, it's perhaps unsurprising to learn that the ending to Returns which we all know wasn't actually the original.
In fact, it was only a matter of weeks before the film's cinema release that Warner Brothers decided they wanted to leave open the possibility of a Catwoman spin-off at some point in the future. Plans eventually became so advanced for a Selena Kyle solo vehicle that Pfeiffer put pen to paper on a deal to reprise her role, before motherhood and other factors prevented her from doing so.
What that meant for Returns, however, was a bit of a rejig because, up until that very final sequence in which we see Catwoman staring up at a Bat signal, you'd be very much forgiven for thinking that the character was as dead as a doornail.
Consequently, well after the rest of the movie had stopped filming, the studio had to hire a Pfeiffer body double and film an extra shot at the whopping expense of $250,000.
