20 Things You Didn't Know About Blade Runner

3. Deckard And Batty's Final Confrontation Was Originally Very Different

According to Rutger Hauer's autobiography, the climactic confrontation between Rick Deckard and Roy Batty was to be a much more violent clash. The scene was to take place in an abandoned gym, and would have had the adversaries face one another utilising kung fu or similar martial arts. Hauer was unimpressed with the idea, feeling it was clichéd and "too Bruce Lee" as he put it. The scene was then reworked into the desperate chase between a vengeful Batty and a terrified Deckard - ultimately far more effective than the Lethal Weapon style punch-up that was originally planned.

Hauer also claimed to have come up with the idea of the climactic chase, but whether this is entirely true or just hyperbole is anyone's guess.
