20 Things You Didn't Know About Die Another Day

Die Another Day
MGM

Die Another Day was Rosamund Pike’s theatrical film debut. Even though Miranda Frost is just as lethal as Jinx, the 20th Bond film was a learning curve for the British actress.

Pike was cast just five days before principal photography began after Olivia Williams had declined the role and initially found the media focus on her to be distracting. She was relieved when Halle Berry joined the cast as the spotlight twisted onto the popular American actress, allowing Pike to focus on her performance instead. The casting of such a high-profile actress as Jinx also meant that Miranda became Bond’s betrayer, whereas the original intention was that Jinx would double cross Double-0 Seven.

Pike later announced that she found her first filmed scene, in which M briefs Miranda Frost, to be overwhelming, whilst her character's death scene was challenging, as she had to keep her eyelids from fluttering, despite the hot wind blowing through the soundstage. However the greatest trial was her audition, in which she was asked to strip down to her underwear!

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
