20 Things You Didn't Know About JFK
14. The Trial Was The First Time The Public Saw The Zapruder Film In Full
"Back. And to the left. Back. And to the left." Anyone who's seen JFK are haunted by those words, repeated over and over during Garrison's climactic summation. The Zapruder film was bought by Time and Life Magazine two days after the assassination. But Abraham Zapruder put a condition on the sale - no one should have to see the gore, so frame 113, showing the fatal shot, would be removed.
That was until Garrison hauled it out to prove the President was shot from another angle than behind from the library, suggesting a second shooter, it was missing said frame. He plays the Super 8 footage of the President's head exploding in a red mist repeatedly.
The trial resulted in bootleg copies being made and circulated by members of Garrison's legal team.
Time sold the footage back to the Zapruder family for $1 in 1975. It's since been donated to the Sixth Floor Museum in Dealey Plaza.
