Speaking of choosing what to watch, Netflix actively keeps track of how long its users spend browsing through its content library, and while it's very easy to spend ten minutes or longer scrolling through the scores of movies and TV shows at your disposal, the average amount of time people spend searching is a lot lower than you might expect.

According to Neil Hunt - the company’s former Chief Product Officer - a "typical" Netflix user only spends one to two minutes looking at the service's offerings, checking out an estimated "20 to 50" bits of entertainment before either choosing one to watch, or exiting the app.

The company also spends a huge $150 million per year on its recommendation technology, meaning that they're constantly investing in ways to make sure you don't exit the app after that two-minute browsing period has elapsed.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
