9. The Film Went Through Three Casting Directors
Though personnel changes are a natural part of the filmmaking process, whether a result of scheduling conflicts or "creative differences," it's pretty unusual for a film to burn through several casting directors during production.
But Scary Movie is no normal movie, and it ended up using three casting directors by the end of shooting. Mary Vernieu and Anne McCarthy both left the film after a prolonged casting period whereby they clashed frequently with director Keenen Ivory Wayans.
Christine Sheaks was then brought aboard to finish casting the movie, though by that point most of the work had reportedly been completed. An easy payday, then.
Yet considering how much of the film's success lies in how well-cast the large ensemble cast was, it's tough to argue with the methodology here.
