20 Things You Didn't Know About The Predator
7. A Basketball Team Once Was Recruited To Play A Group Of Predators
In the closing scene of Predator 2, having killed the quarry he's been chasing the whole movie, Danny Glover is confronted by a group of Predators who materialize in front of him. All of them are tall and imposing, even compared to Glover's 6 foot 3 inch frame.
Well, there's a reason for that. Both Glover and Kevin Peter Hall were basketball fans. When a bunch of tall dudes were needed, it seemed natural to them to go to the source, so they approached several members of the LA Lakers to suit up in Predator costumes.
What resulted was the most expensive shot of the film, as nine additional, all unique costumes were needed to make what has been dubbed the "Los Angeles Hunting Party," even though they only appeared on screen for a few minutes. This provided the first on-screen evidence that Predators weren't solitary creatures but that they lived and worked in a group setting.
As an inside joke, these Predators have also become known as the "Lost Hunting Party" because their nine costumes somehow disappeared from the film set after the movie wrapped. To this day, no trace of the costumes have ever been recovered, and Dark Horse has made the Lost Party canon by including them in the comics.
