In 2012, a group of researchers working in the Brazilian rainforest discovered a new genus of spider. When they had a chance to closely study them, they realized that the chelicerae, or jaws, of these new spiders looked almost identical to the fanged mandibles of the Predator.

With that in mind, the scientists called the whole genus Predatoroonops. In what must have been a fun session of brainstorming, they then named each individual species after a character, actor, or aspect of the film. So, for example, there is now a spider whose official name is Predatoroonops schwarzeneggeri.

There are also spiders named after Dutch, Blain, Mac, Dillon, John McTiernan, Kevin Peter Hall, and Yautja (the name that Predators use to refer to their own species.)

Who says science can't be fun?
