As mentioned before, the original treatment for The Terminator was far more ambitious and contained many elements that were cut from the final film.

In the original narrative, two Terminators were sent back, along with a human to combat them. The first would be killed by the human and a liquid metal Terminator would be sent back in retaliation. Cameron liked the idea but come to the conclusion that the effects weren’t up to scratch, and the second Terminator would have to be cut.

Cameron eventually got to see this idea come to fruition in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, as by that point his status as a director had grown and he could convince the studio to give him the massive budget necessary to pull off the liquid metal Terminator. The result is astonishing.
