20 Things You Didn't Know About Unbreakable
18. Shyamalan Was Inspired By Pulp Fiction
Speaking of Quentin Tarantino, director M. Night Shyamalan was actually inspired by his film Pulp Fiction, when it came to the casting of Unbreakable. Shyamalan describes Pulp Fiction as one of his favourite films and wanted to capture the flavour that actors Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson brought to that film.
Shyamalan began writing Unbreakable during post-production of The Sixth Sense and already pitched the idea to Bruce Willis who was instantly interested in the project. The director was inspired by the cool edginess both actors brought to Tarantino's film, and was interested in bringing Willis' quietness versus Jackson's pizzazz to Unbreakable.
