16. The Villain And The Hero Never Meet In The Fifth Element

Admit it, you've seen this film a dozen times and this fact has never occurred to you. It€™s plainly obvious in retrospect. But that doesn€™t always mean that people actually notice something the first time they see it, which seems to be the case this time around. Luc Besson€™s out of the ordinary sci-fi extravaganza follows Korben Dallas (played by Bruce Willis), a taxicab driver and former special forces major, who must save the world after he comes in contact with an alien women named Leeloo (played by Milla Jovovich), the €œsupreme being€. Gary Oldman plays industrialist Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg, who has been instructed by the great evil to acquire ancient and powerful stones (which were supposed to be on Leeloo's spacecraft). It is indeed quite amazing that the good guy and the bad guy in this film never meet one another. Or to take it a step further: they never even communicate with one another. In fact, it€™s not really clear if these two characters are even aware of one another€™s existence. Quite odd.
