15. Sylvester Stallone Tried To Buy And Destroy First Blood At One Point

First Blood deals with a shameful period in American history, a time when the United States received its returning war veterans as a burden on society. Many of those that opposed the war took it out on the men who fought it, a wrong that€™s never been adequately righted, except perhaps in movies like this one. In one of the finest, most nuanced performances of his career, Sylvester Stallone registers the emotional turmoil that countless veterans were experiencing and leaves the viewer with more on their mind than an enormity of explosions However, this classic film almost never saw the light of day. Stallone apparently despised the 195-minute first cut of the film so much that he attempted to purchase the film back to prevent its distribution. When this proved impossible, Stallone suggested the movie time be halved, cutting much of his role out in order to let the rest of the characters tell the narrative. This shorter approach to action movies set a precedent for future films of the genre.
