Movies frequently use unexpected occurrences during production to strengthen their narratives and Collateral is no different. According to some fans on Reddit, the sudden presence of coyotes in the film adds layers to Vincent and Max's arcs.

While driving to Club Fever, the duo encounter a coyote on the way to the establishment. Some viewers see the presence of the animal as a representation of Vincent's hunter lifestyle and Max's uncertainty as prey of sorts. All these theories go to show how packed a seemingly trivial event such as a coyote crossing the street can be.

It is doubly impressive given that the animal sighting was not part of the original story but some novel thinking on the creative's part led to one of its most memorable moments.
