20 Things You Somehow Missed In Never Say Never Again

11. Bond's Bentley

Whilst the official Bond films had flirted with Double-0 Seven driving a Bentley, in keeping with Ian Fleming's novels, by briefly providing him with a green 1938 four and a quarter litre Bentley Vanden Plas Drophead Coupé in 1963's From Russia With Love, the car was taken out of service offscreen in 1964's Goldfinger and replaced by the Aston Martin DB5.

In Never Say Never Again, Sean Connery's James Bond drove a 1937 four and a quarter litre Bentley Gurney Nutting Drophead Coupé to Shrublands Health Spa.

An orderly remarks upon the beauty of the classic car, to which Bond observes that it still has some life left in it yet; this is an allegory for his own situation, as he is an ageing field agent keen to be back in the field.

Contributor

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
