20 Times Directors You Trust Totally Let You Down
2. Colin Trevorrow - The Book Of Henry
The Director:
Colin Trevorrow made an acclaimed indie feature. directed the underrated Jurassic World and was lined up to direct Star Wars Episode IX. He definitely seemed like a worthy new talent.
The Film:
By choosing to direct The Book of Henry, Trevorrow might have just destroyed his career. A turgid, badly constructed and painfully stupid melodrama, this is one film so dumb comparisons with The Room and Tommy Wiseau are justified. If anyone wants to make a sequel to The Disaster Artist, the making of this disaster-piece would be a good subject.
Creepy, disturbing, illogical and worrying, this could be the single most misjudged film of recent times. The wildly unintelligent plot, stupid mid-film twist and completely unsatisfactory treatment of an important issue will either leave you shaking your head in disbelief or rolling around on the floor with laughter - probably both.
Trevorrow, whose direction is very workmanlike here, has defended the movie but was very upset by all the negative reviews. One can't help but feel sorry for him, as he clearly cares about his craft and deserved so much better than this... thing.
Has He Bounced Back?
Well, he was fired from Star Wars Episode IX and it was probably partly thanks to this, so definitely not. He's got another project or two in the pipeline, but nothing definite.
