20 Unanswered Questions From 2017's Comic Book Movies

18. What's Up With The MCU's Timeline? - Spider-Man: Homecoming

Spider Man Homecoming

The Question: What the hell is going on with the MCU's timeline? Homecoming's opening scene is clearly set in the wake of 2012's Battle of New York, then jumps 8 years into the future. But if Homecoming is set just after Captain America: Civil War, why would that be 2020 rather than 2016? What a headache.

The Likely Answer: Though the timeline hasn't officially been straightened out, Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige acknowledged the issue as a mistake shortly after Homecoming's release. He also announced that a revised timeline of events would be released in the future to make sense of it all.

Granted, the timeline isn't all that important in the grand scheme of things, but it's still surprising that such a sloppy oversight made it into the carefully curated world of the MCU.
