20 Underappreciated Blockbusters That Are Much Better Than You Remember
5. The Matrix Reloaded
It completely falls apart at the end when The Architect appears and starts spouting a whole lot of nonsense, but up until that point The Matrix Reloaded is an action-packed and (whisper it) almost worthy follow-up to the game-changing original.
Yes, the Zion rave is still incredibly stupid but on the whole Reloaded does everything a good sequel is supposed to do; it expands the mythology, develops the characters, introduces new ideas and ups the ante in the action stakes, which is where the Wachowski's sequel really shines.
The effects in the 'Burly Brawl' may look like video-game cutscenes when viewed today but by and large the set-pieces still retain their kinetic brilliance today, with the freeway chase in particular still rightly lauded as one of the 21st Century's greatest action sequences.
The Matrix Revolutions is crap, that much we can all agree on, but Reloaded has been unfairly tarred with the same brush.
