20 Underappreciated Blockbusters That Are Much Better Than You Remember
17. Anaconda
Named as one of the most enjoyably bad movies ever made by no less an authority than Razzie Awards founder John Wilson, Anaconda is a prime slice of 1990s cheese that is washed down perfectly with a few slices of pizza and even more beer.
Essentially a $45m remake of Jaws with snakes in the jungle as opposed to sharks in the water, even the cast reads as quintessentially 90s; Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Danny Trejo and Eric Stoltz, with a special mention for Jon Voight on imperious scenery-chewing form as a hilariously creepy South American poacher.
It may have been savaged by critics and is hardly regarded as a classic, but as an unabashedly shlocky B-movie that wears its high concept as a badge of honor, Anaconda is a reliably entertaining 90 minutes.
