Daniel Day-Lewis. Enough said. Day-Lewis is renowned, of course, for his ability to disappear into roles, and In The Name Of The Father is no exception to the rule. Directed by Jim Sheridan, the film is based on the true life story of "the Guildford Four," four people who were wrongly convicted of the 1974 Guildford pub bombings, which were carried out by the IRA. Day-Lewis was nominated for an Oscar for his role as one Gerry Conlon. So here's a wonderful movie - tight, dramatic and tense - that you rarely hear about nowadays, featuring another tour-de-force performance from the legend that is Daniel Day-Lewis. To prepare for his role, the actor lost over 50 pounds in weight, and also opted to spend 3 days and 3 nights in a jail cell in order to get inside the mind of his real to life character. And all that method is apparent on screen from beginning to end; he's totally electric.
