Undoubtably one of the best serial killer movies ever made, Memories of Murder is a triumph of acting, cinematography, plot and suspense - a film that throws you in at the deep end and asks you to sympathise with the struggling detectives whose lives are rocked by their endless pursuit to capture a murderer at large. And there are no straight answers or easy resolutions here - the movie depicts the investigation super realistically. From Joon-ho Bong, best know in the west as the director of The Host and the recent Snowpiercer, this South Korean film - which has been likened to Se7en, though Memories of Murder is far more subtle and a lot more complicated than that particular picture - will linger in your memory for months (and maybe even years afterwards). Haunting in ways that only the best serial killer flicks are, it's also - surprisingly - very funny, too.
