20 Upcoming Action Movies That Could Beat Mad Max: Fury Road

3. Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1

Release Date: May 4, 2018 Why It Could Beat Fury Road: Because this is where things start to get truly, truly epic for the Marvel Cinematic Universe: forget everything you've seen up to this point and just revel in the fact that none of it will be a might as awesome as seeing The Avengers (whatever form that takes by 2018) squaring off against long-gestating baddie, Thanos (Josh Brolin). To (hopefully) see Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) swapping wise-cracks with Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) has so much hilarious potential, while action-wise, Infinity War should take things to the next level, given Thanos' stature as the end boss-type villain of these films so far (until he's inevitably replaced for Phase Four). Simply, everything from 2008's Iron Man has been leading to this. How Likely Is It?: 9/10. The Russo Brothers proved with Captain America: The Winter Soldier that they're considerably more interesting visual directors than Joss Whedon, and though Whedon won't be returning to write a third movie, MCU regulars Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (who scripted all three Cap movies to date and Thor: The Dark World) should do a splendid job with it. When the vision is potentially this grand, who even cares about an R-rating? Short of a catastrophe, it should set the pieces in place for Part Two's inevitable final showdown with the big purple guy. Free from the constraints of adapting a novel and splitting it into two parts, there's no excuse for this one to be filler ahead of the main course.
