20 Upcoming Action Movies That Could Beat Mad Max: Fury Road
2. The Raid 3
Release Date: "2018 or 2019" Why It Could Beat Fury Road: Gareth Evans completely shook up the action film scene with his 2011 film The Raid, which basically played out like a classic video game, as a SWAT team scaled a fortified apartment complex to tackle the drug kingpin hiding at the top. Then The Raid 2 came along and blew it out of the water. Sure, it was too long, but the set-pieces were insanely ambitious, most memorably a car chase with some of the most unbelievably dangerous stunts and camera feats in recent memory, many of which certainly wouldn't be legal in the West. The Raid 3 is definitely happening, though smartly, Evans is giving himself a wealth of time to try and find a way to up the ante once again. There's no reason not to believe he won't be able to, given how jaw-droppingly excellent The Raid 2 was. How Likely Is It?: 8/10. There is a definite fear that Evans has peaked too early with his last film, but the man's technical skill behind the camera is undeniable, and as long as Iko Uwais returns, it's still going to be one hell of a show either way. Again, it's a focus on practical stunts and combat with minimal CGI that makes these movies so entertaining and visceral, and it's tough to imagine The Raid 3 being any different at all.
