20 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Need To End Their Franchises
11. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
The Franchise: Producer Jerry Bruckheimer's mammoth fantasy franchise which follows the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and any A-list actor they can pay enough to play second fiddle to him. Critical reviews have been mixed ever since the second film, but after four movies to date, the series has pulled in an insane $3.7 billion worldwide. Sequel Status: Filming on the fifth film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, started in Australia in February, with a surprisingly distant release date set for July 7, 2017. Norwegian directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki) are taking the helm this time, while new cast additions include Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner), Brenton Thwaites (The Giver), and Javier Bardem. Why It Needs To Be The Last One: Because though the series continues to be popular and successful, there's just no effort put into the movies anymore. The stories are totally forgettable and the filmmakers rely too heavily on Depp's shtick to succeed, when that began to feel pretty tired by the third film. How Likely Is It?: Not a chance. Depp has admitted he'll keep milking the cash cow to provide for his family, and given how much money the films generate for Disney, there's just no way this thing is going away until the box office drops or Depp does. 1/10.
