3. One Night Only
One Night Only is a new rom-com starring Monica Barbara and Callum Turner, and from the few set photos that have been released online, this looks like yet another dubious attempt to resurrect a genre that's struggled to succeed in the theatrical marketplace in recent years.
The fact that it's being directed by Will Gluck, who previously helmed the commercially successful but creatively bankrupt rom-com Anyone but You, doesn't exactly dissuade that feeling.
But One Night Only has one hell of a fun, original premise going for it, given that it takes place in a reality where premarital sex is illegal, save for one night per year where singletons desperately try to find someone to hook up with.
It's basically The Purge for sex, then, and considering that the script - co-written by Gluck and Travis Braun - landed on the 2024 Black List of best unproduced screenplays, this could actually be a big breakout rom-com just waiting to happen.
