Rotten Tomatoes: 29% Paul WS Anderson isn't exactly an auteur, but his thinly veiled attempt to make a grand romance in a disaster setting fell flatter even than his usually restrained levels. The commitment to spectacle was notable and praise-worthy, but there's very little beneath the fiery surface, and definitely not enough substance in the central relationship that is unfairly impregnated as one of the Most Important Romances In History by the setting. This is a central relationship trading only in cliches and a typically limited performance by Kit Harrington (whose level is being all grumpy and Northern in a fur cape), and unfortunately there's not enough to make it a guilty pleasure. "Narrative has never been Anderson's strength; the story here is a corny overhaul of James Cameron's already-corny Titanic." Drew Hunt, Chicago Reader
