20 Worst Movies Of 2018 (So Far)

5. Tau

Tau Maika Monroe Ed Skrein
Netflix

Dumped on Netflix with zero fanfare, this trashy sci-fi thriller about a young woman (Maika Monroe) who is kidnapped and held inside a technologically-advanced "smart house" fails to make the most of its B-movie potential.

With a weirdly humourless tone, bland script and middling array of visuals - some of the CGI here is super rough - Tau is further proof that high-concept sci-fi is extremely difficult to pull off on a lower budget.

Rising star Monroe is at least trying to make it all work, but she's the only aspect of the movie that's even remotely appealing. Unless you stumble across it on a hungover Sunday afternoon, there's no reason to bother with this dreck.

Worst Moment: Gary Oldman's sleepwalking performance as the the voice of the titular A.I. He never even pretends to care.
