20 Worst Movies Of 2021 (So Far)
11. Chaos Walking
After spending several years decomposing on a studio shelf while waiting for stars Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland to have time in their busy schedules for reshoots, Chaos Walking is precisely the dud everyone expected it to be.
A strangely anonymous effort from director Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow), this adaptation of Patrick Ness' fantasy novel The Knife of Never Letting Go came at least five years too late, hitting screens long after the cinematic YA boom had come and gone.
In that sense it's certainly a fascinating failure, albeit one that doesn't ever convincingly invest the viewer in its world or characters.
Even with such a strong cast - also including Mads Mikkelsen and David Oyelowo - this never escapes feeling like a parody of a convoluted, lore-dense YA movie.
