13. The Weekend Away
A glorified Lifetime-style thriller that quietly dropped on Netflix earlier this year, The Weekend Away revolves around a woman, Beth (Leighton Meester), whose best friend goes missing during their weekend getaway in Croatia.
We've all seen this type of sub-Hitchcock setup countless times over the years, and no matter the game effort from lead Leighton Meester, this generic, utterly workmanlike thriller will evaporate from your memory within mere days at most.
There are at least some daft plot twists to savour, but otherwise on a writing and general filmmaking level, it doesn't even begin to make a dent.
Despite all the hyperbole about Netflix producing quantity over quality content, The Weekend Away certainly adds fuel to that argument.
