20 Worst Movies Of 2022
3. Blackbird
When it comes to tapdancing, Michael Flatley's talents are unequalled.
But when it comes to moviemaking, Flatley hasn't a clue what he's doing. His spy thriller, Blackbird, serves as an ode to the golden age of cinema. Not only did the self-proclaimed Lord of the Dance direct this film, he took the lead role, wrote the script, and financed it himself.
And it was so bad, Blackbird couldn't find a single distributor for four years! Even though Flatley's passion project was completed in 2018, he only managed to release it a few months ago.
Sadly, it's easy to see why Blackbird had so much trouble finding a distributor. Not only is the story non-sensical, derivative, and badly-written, Flatley doesn't have a clue how to make the simplest action look natural. When he kisses his lover, it looks like it's the first time he's locked lips with another human. He tries so hard to replicate Humphrey Bogart's swagger, it makes every mannerism come across as mechanical and forced.
After watching Blackbird for a couple of minutes, you'll wonder why Flatley didn't just stick with Riverdance.
