20 Worst Netflix Original Movies EVER
9. The Last Thing He Wanted
Perhaps the single-most disappointing film in Netflix's history, The Last Thing He Wanted had serious awards potential on paper but turned out quite the opposite.
Director Dee Rees, fresh off a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination for her Netflix film Mudbound, followed it up with this adaptation of Joan Didion's acclaimed novel, touting a stacked cast including Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck, Rosie Perez, Toby Jones, and Willem Dafoe.
It's tough to fathom what the hell went wrong here - it's scarcely believable that this was co-written and directed by the same person who gave us Mudbound, so amateur and consistently ill-conceived is the filmmaking throughout.
From the laughable voiceover narration to the stilted dialogue, oddly flat performances, and opaque political thriller narrative, The Last Thing He Wanted commits the dual sin of being both boring and confusing.
Rees has yet to make another movie since, though hopefully when she does it'll mark a major rebound after this shockingly inept effort.
