20 Incredible Recent Movies That FLOPPED

10. Faces of Death

After spending several years stuck in post-production limbo, Daniel Goldhaber's reimagining of Faces of Death was finally released this past April.

And while hardly a mainstream-skewing horror romp, it did prove to be an unexpectedly smart, self-aware satirical horror film led by a remarkable performance from Dacre Montgomery.

But even with a budget of just $7.4 million, the film grossed a mere $2.6 million - a shocking outcome for a horror movie based on an existing brand, even if an infamous one.

Yet there was ultimately so much working against this - Faces of Death is a very niche IP, the marketing wasn't great, and the literal years of reports about the film's troubled production surely didn't help its already shaky PR.

The movie was at least somewhat vindicated with its strong performance on streaming services Shudder and AMC+ a few months later, yet despite its box office failure, Faces of Death is one of the year's most intriguingly bold and provocative horror flicks.
