Guy Ritchie has been on an absolute tear of productivity in recent years, but there's also been a trend for his last few films to get a quiet, cursory theatrical release before being swiftly dumped on streaming.
And the same was true of his new Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal-starring action thriller In the Grey, which had the additional baggage of malinguering in post-production purgatory for the better part of three years before finally coming out.
Indeed, it wrapped shooting all the way back in October 2023, giving Ritchie time to film three other movies - Fountain of Youth, Wife and Dog, and Viva La Madness - before it hit screens.
Furthermore, in late 2025 Lionsgate dropped the U.S. distribution rights, handing them over to Black Bear, who again have a ropey track record where recent box office is concerned.
Worse still, planned reshoots never happened due to the busy schedules of the central cast members, which made it abundantly clear this thing was being forcefully shoved out the door.
In the end the $70 million (!) production grossed just $23.7 million theatrically.
