20 Recent Box Office Flops Everyone Saw Coming
1. The Breadwinner
The movie star has perhaps never been less relevant in Hollywood, but there's potential in entertainers from other fields attempting to bring their audiences with them to the big screen.
That's perhaps most organically true of comedians, and the most recent instance of this saw stand-up comic Nate Bargatze star in the comedy The Breadwinner.
Except, even many of Bargatze's fans didn't have much good to say about the woefully dated premise, which saw him star as a father of three who must hold down his home when his wife (Mandy Moore) goes away on a business trip.
It might've been a ripe setup for the biggest hit comedy of 1989, but in 2026 without any sort of satirical or self-aware angle it seemed almost parodically regressive.
Throw in a puzzlingly high $25 million budget and its commercial success was left firmly in doubt.
In the end, The Breadwinner grossed just $20 million worldwide.
