20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Might Surprise You

5. Lee Cronin's The Mummy

It's easy to see why some folk are a little skeptical of Lee Cronin's The Mummy. For one, the only Mummy movie many folk want to see is the recently-announced The Mummy 4 starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.

Beyond that, there were scattered reports of poor test screenings for the film, and the fact that the first trailer dropped less than two months before its April release also suggested to some that Warner Bros. was basically dumping it.

Yet that first trailer was actually pretty damn solid, and the big takeaway is that director Lee Cronin - whose previous film was Evil Dead Rise - basically seems to be making another Evil Dead movie that just so happens to have the Mummy branding slapped on it.

A Mummy-flavoured Evil Dead film sounds like a breath of fresh air honestly, with the trailer suggesting that this is going to be savagely violent with fringes of darker-than-dark humour.

Whether it hits at the box office remains to be seen, but at least Cronin looks to be doing something far more interesting than the same tired Mummy story we've seen time and time again.
