20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Might Surprise You
4. Possession
Andrzej Żuławski's Possession is one of the greatest horror films of all time, and so it's understandable that many cried sacrilege the moment that a Hollywood remake was announced.
The tone of Żuławski's 1981 original is so uniquely discomforting, and the performances from Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill so peerlessly brilliant, that the kneejerk reaction is to consider any attempt at a remake a fool's errand.
But there are some intriguing names attached to this remake. For one, it's set to be written and directed by Parker Finn, who did such a fantastic job on both Smile movies, while Robert Pattinson will be co-producing.
In terms of cast, recent rumours indicate that Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner are circling the lead roles, and given Qualley's recent genre forays in particular, it's easy to see how she could deliver a performance worthy of Adjani's all-timer work in the original.
Nobody's saying that the new Possession has a chance of outdoing the original, but with the talent attached and how much time has passed since, a new take for the 2020s could be a fascinating beast in its own right, not unlike Luca Guadagnino's singular take on Suspiria.
