20 Wild Theories For Upcoming Movies

10. It's About A Massive Oil Spill - Digger

Digger Tom Cruise
Warner Bros.

Perhaps the single most mysterious film of the year right now is Digger - the long-awaited new movie from the great Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

The brief teaser trailer released late last year shed little light on what we can expect, though the official synopsis says that Tom Cruise will star as Digger Rockwell, the "most powerful man in the world" who races to prove himself humanity's saviour before a disaster he's unleashed destroys everything.

It's a vague enough synopsis that one could infer Cruise's protagonist was everything from the President of the United States to a literal superhero, though rumours have since done the rounds that Cruise will be playing something quite different - a Texas oil tycoon.

More to the point, the scuttlebutt suggests the catastrophe he causes is a massive oil spill with global ecological implications.

If these reports are anywhere close to the money, then Digger is going to be one hell of an ambitious effort - but why expect any less from the filmmaker who brought us Birdman and The Revenant?
