Casting "announcements" don't get much wilder than this. 

A truly unhinged rumour has done the rounds online in recent months that footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been cast as a major villain in the eleventh and apparently final Fast and Furious movie, Fast Forever.

Social media is flooded with "reports" and even AI images of Ronaldo in the film, no matter that Fast Forever hasn't even started shooting yet.

The theory stems from an interview last December where Vin Diesel revealed that he'd written a part for Ronaldo in the movie, though that doesn't mean Ronaldo's schedule will actually allow him to take it.

And more to the point, given the series' history with celebrities, it's far, far more likely that Ronald appears for a brief cameo rather than a more substantial villain part, especially considering his unproven acting chops.

But as ever, we'll just have to wait and see.
