12. Emily Is Andy's Mother - Toy Story 5
The Rumour:
As soon as it was revealed that Toy Story 5 would see the return of Jessie's (Joan Cusack) original owner Emily, an age-old fan theory gained renewed prominence - that the film would finally reveal Emily to in fact be Mrs. Davis (Laurie Metcalf), the mother of the series' original child protagonist Andy, in a tear-soaked twist.
The Truth:
But the film confirms beyond any doubt that Emily did not grow up to become Andy's mother.
In the affecting finale, Jessie finds photos of an adult Emily, who looks nothing like Andy's mother and has her own daughter who she touchingly named Jessie in honour of her favourite childhood toy.
Though this surely disappointed some, it's absolutely for the best. Not every character needs to be connected to every other character in the pursuit of a contrived emotional gut-punch - it's better that Emily has her own distinct life story.
