Calling back to his first feature film, Tim Burton gave parts to Paul Reubens and Diane Salinger - the stars of Pee-wee's Big Adventure. The pair play The Penguin's parents Tucker and Esther. The director also gave himself a cameo, playing a goon in the first Batman, and in the follow up Danny Elfman - who was given the composing job despite concerns from the producers that he wouldn't be up to it - played one of the off-screen tomato and lettuce throwers during the Penguin's botched speech.

In Batman & Robin when Poison Ivy makes her first appearance at the charity event, the song that is playing in the background is "Poison Ivy" by The Coasters. The same song - covered by Meshell Ndegeocello also features on the soundtrack.
