Luke: No. You're coming with me. I'll not leave you here, I've got to save you. Anakin: You already... have, Luke. You were right. You were right about me. Tell your sister... you were right.
How He Dies: Electrocuted by the departing Emperor after a final change of heart makes him save rather than condemn his child. Though Darth Vader's final change of heart could be deemed a betrayal of everything the character represents up until that point (which was clearly enough of a concern for George Lucas to make some notorious edits around it), the prevailing commitment to his own bloodline, even despite his apparently irredeemably dark heart remains one of the most successful and enduring character twists in cinematic history. And if his revelation that Luke was right about him wasn't enough, he strikes a victory for down-trodden brothers everywhere in the world by using his dying breath to give Luke a victory over his sister.
