25 Definitively Best Movies EVER (According To Critics AND Fans)

20. Three Colors: Red (1994)

Three Colors Red
Miramax

Score: 92

Red is, of course, the third part of Kieslowski's trilogy of films based on the French tricolour, following Blue's focus on "liberty", White's on "equality" with a focus on "fraternity".

It's a film about the seeming randomness of human existence that gives way to the idea that we live a fated existence. We watch as Valentine (Irene Jacob) and an ambitious young lawyer, Auguste (Jean-Pierre Lorit) cross paths constantly and their bonds grow stronger despite their seeming lack of connection.

It's one of THE prime examples of French arthouse cinema - which is perhaps why it gets the hot double 100 from Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, but it's not impenetrably pretentious, thankfully.
