Plot: Currently unknown. On its opening weekend, The Purge grossed over $34 million. Considering the movie was made for only a $3 million budget, that's a pretty impressive haul. The movie actually grossed $7 million more than After Earth did the previous weekend. How does a horror movie starring Ethan Hawke become more successful than a Will Smith movie? I'm not entirely sure, but I bet the Smith family had some uncomfortable dinner conversations throughout the summer Understandably, Universal Pictures gave the greenlight to another Purge movie right away. It appears that the sequel will feature an entirely new cast which includes Frank Grillo, Zach Gilford, Michael K. Williams, and Carmen Ejogo. This will be another case where a studio hopes the film's concept and name recognition will be enough for the sequel to have similar box office success. The problem is that, despite The Purge being a respectable box office hit, it was not loved by audiences or critics. The movie only received a 38% Rottentomatoes score and its Cinemascore was merely a "C." So, do people really care to see another Purge movie? U.S. Release Date: June 20th
