25 Greatest Easter Eggs From The Last 20 Years Of Horror

8. The Thing (2011)

The biggest gripe fans of John Carpenter€™s monster mystery The Thing still argue about today is its ending. Who was the Thing; Macready or Childs?

The filmmakers of the 2011 prequel slipped in an answer that few fans caught. Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) puts two and two together when she discovers a way of detecting whether or not someone is human or the Thing. Accessories. The alien cannot replicate anything beyond a person€™s basic biology - meaning it can€™t assimilate inorganic matter such as surgical implants, dental fillings or piercings. Kate spots Carter without his earring, or the hole in his ear, bringing to light a new method for weeding out the alien.

Looking to the ending of the 1982 version, with Macready and Childs shivering in the cold over a bottle of whiskey - you can make out Childs€™ earring.

He ain€™t no Thing.
