James Gunn€™s affection for B-movie monster classics is broadcast across the entire set decoration for Slither. The main street of Wheelsy, a town in North Carolina becomes plague to an extraterrestrial parasite that operates like a bodysnatcher crossed with a slug, taking on its hosts memories while degrading their body so it resembles raspberry blancmange.

Ripe for references, you€™d have to have your specs on to notice this selection. One of the shops is owned by R.J. MacReady, named after Kurt Russell€™s character in The Thing and another is called Max Renn, the name of James Woods TV producer in Videodrome. Smart work, and that's not the end of it.

The most obscure shop-name based Easter Egg is situated above the high street in an advertisement for the Deer Cheer festival with €œHenenlotter€™s Saddle Lodge presents€ across a banner. That of course is a reference to Frank Henenlotter, who directed two cult horrors from the €˜80s: Basket Case and Brain Damage.
