Robert Rodriguez€™s zombie half of the Grindhouse double bill he co-directed with Quentin Tarantino has a couple of hidden connections scuppered away for eager Tarantino enthusiasts to ferret out. Included as a way of smashing to smithereens the fan theories that exclaim all of Tarantino€™s movies exist solely in one universe, this means... there€™s a cross over.

It all goes down like this. The first sighting of Wray (Freddy Rodriguez) we see him ask at the Bone Shack for a pack of smokes. When he is given the cigarettes, a shot reveals them to be €œRed Apple€ smokes. The same fictional brand Butch Coolidge buys from Marsellus€™ club in Pulp Fiction. This small detail is a cool cinematic handshake between Tarantino and Rodriguez, executed in a cordial manner akin to fencers before they jab at each other.

The second hook-up is a very brief shot of Dakota€™s (Marley Shelton) notepad. Pause it just right and you€™ll see her to-do list: Cereal for Tony, Crickets for Tony€™s pets, Kill Bill. If we have to spell out the connection here...
