17. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

Speaking of impressive pedigrees, it's a shame to see Dead Silence director James Wan isn't directing the soon-to-be unleashed Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It.

That said, the man is busy trying to keep both the Conjuring and Fast and Furious franchises alive at once, so he probably needs the rest.

This threequel sees the demon-hunting real-life couple Warrens, once again played by returning stars Watchmen's Patrick Wilson and Bates Motel's Vera Farmiga, facing down their scariest existential threat yet.

The trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, upon which this instalment is based, makes for chilling reading even for ardent atheists. Luckily, last year's effective horror The Curse of La Llorona proves that this flick is in good hands with that earlier film's helmer Michael Chaves on board.
