25 Most Hotly Anticipated Movies Of Summer 2015
3. Terminator Genisys
Release Date: 1st July
After the disappointment of Terminator Salvation, Paramount have ploughed on with remarkable endurance through false starts (including projects with Justin Lin and Ang Lee) with the faith that the franchise still has legs. The fact that such an impressive array of talent eventually joined Alan Taylor, indicates other people felt the same way.
Like X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Genisys will introduce a new timeline and new versions of familiar characters, with Sarah Connor reinvented as a bad-ass, the T-800 basically as her father and a most surprising revelation concerning John Connor. This time, it's not just about preventing Judgement Day.
Selling Point
There's a lot of life left in the Terminator franchise, and the promise of an entirely new timeline should delight fans (especially if it means old man Schwarzenegger can satisfyingly be retired).
Reservations
Any film that shows as much of its key elements as Genisys already has prior to release (including the massive spoiler that Jason Clarke's John Connor is a terminator) should let off warning signs all over the place. It's effectively the equivalent of a trailer jumping the shark, after all.
And Alan Taylor didn't exactly thrill with Thor: The Dark World.
